Gowri Raj Varma

Associate, Public Policy

Gowri is an early-career public policy professional with an academic background in Development Studies from IIT Madras. After graduation, she worked as a consultant with the World Bank’s Digital Development South Asia team, supporting digital transformation programmes across themes like DPI and AI. Her next role was at the IndiaAI Mission (Ministry of Electronics and IT, GoI) through the International Innovation Corps, where she supported the design and execution of large-scale projects under the Safe and Trusted AI pillar, as well as international collaborations and other high-level government engagements.

While her interests are wide-ranging, she is motivated by the idea of making technology more human-centric and channelling it to increase inclusion, strengthen governance, and, above all, enhance the dignity and quality of life for marginalised communities in India and beyond. Outside of work, Gowri is usually consuming fiction at the speed of light, trying (and struggling) to make the most of her MUBI subscription, planning her next travel itinerary, or finding new ways to connect with people.
